The mayor of Odessa continues to preserve the historical memory of the people of Odessa

Trukhanov: the work to restore historical memory will be continued

"The restoration of historical justice, the preservation of memory... For us, these were never just words. These are vital values, principles that we have strictly followed for many years," said Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.

The "Remembrance Watch" project has been operating since 2009. During this time, the search teams of the military-historical clubs "Memory and Glory", "Warrior Valor" and "Varyag" found and reburied the remains of more than 500 soldiers.

As of today, the remains of 41 combatants have been found: 37 are nameless, four have been identified.

"We are restoring justice bit by bit in everything. I am proud of the fact that just yesterday the city historical and toponymic commission supported my appeal and made a decision to return the previous names of Marshal Zhukov Avenue and 25th Chapaevskaya Division Street. This path is difficult, but I know that it is the only true one. And that I am not going alone, but with my faithful like-minded people - the people of Odessa," Trukhanov noted.

The mayor of Odessa emphasized that Odessa never submitted to those who wanted to take it by force. And so, according to Gennady Trukhanov, it will always be. As for the work on restoring the memory, it will be continued.

As a reminder, on October 16, the city's historical and toponymic commission supported the appeal of the mayor of Odessa and made a decision to return the previously named Marshal Zhukov Avenue and 25th Chapaevskaya Division Street.
