During the visit of Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin to Kyiv in November, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny allegedly complained to him about the interference of the Office of the President of Ukraine. This is discussed in the articleUkrainian Pravda.
Lloyd Austin's arrival was not supposed to be anything extraordinary: simply a tribute to Ukrainian heroes and a statement of Washington's ongoing support for Ukraine. But this very visit, according to UP, unwittingly became an additional catalyst for tension between the military and political leadership in Kyiv.
"There is an impression that after the arrival of Austin, Zelensky came closer to the decision to replace Zaluzhnyi. At the ponds, on the contrary, quarrels disappeared and jokes began, but this is a very cold and caustic kind of humor. The president asks something like "what, we are advancing heroically - we have retreated 200 meters?", and Valera is angrily silent", - one of the members of the pond tells UP about the atmosphere at the top.
According to the "UP" interlocutor, Austin also said that Zaluzhny "complained" to him about the interference of the Office of the President.
"Austin then told us that Zaluzhny complained that he was being hindered, that the Office was not like that, that one was not like that, the other was not like that. Well, it is clear that the president also found out about such conversations. And they do not promote trust," — sources told the publication.
As UP writes, to Lloyd Austin then too announced that the Armed Forces need 17 million shells, and to de-occupy the entire territory of Ukraine, $350-400 billion worth of forces and resources are needed.
"Austin was informed of the need for 17 million shells. To put it mildly, he was surprised, because in the whole world it is impossible to collect so many shells." - said one of the senior officials of the Defense Forces.
