Switzerland intends to defend itself together with its European NATO partners in the event of an attack by Russia. This was stated by the President of the Swiss Confederation and Minister of Defense Viola Amherd, the Der Standart.
The European Sky Shield air defense initiative includes a neutrality clause.
"If Switzerland is attacked, the situation will change and neutrality will cease to apply." - said the official and added that in this case Switzerland will be able "to organize... defense with partners."
According to her, there is hope that the defensive shield "will not deploy", but cooperation will help Switzerland in case of defense.
Switzerland participates in the initiative put forward by Germany last year. Its purpose is joint procurement, training and sharing of information such as radar data.
