During the air alert on the night of March 24, a Russian missile flew into the territory of Poland for just 39 seconds, before changing its course and heading towards Lviv. Poland had the opportunity to shoot down this missile, but did not do it, because it did not pose a threat, because it did not penetrate deep enough into the country. This was stated by the adviser to the Minister of Defense Mechyslav Benek, reports Wiadomosci.
The Ministry of Defense of Poland expressed confidence that if the Russian missile had flown a little further this morning, deep into the country, it would have been shot down before it did any harm.
Then the warhead would be worked out from F-16 fighters. The sides of four planes (two Polish and two American) were raised precisely for this purpose, said the adviser to the Polish Minister of Defense Mieczyslaw Bienek.
"Sequential pairs of F16s would have managed to shoot down the object... The missiles that have the pilots on board could have shot down the object if it had gone deeper, threatened." Wiadomosci quotes.
The publication reminds that early in the morning a Russian warhead "rammed" the sky of Poland, violating the airspace of the NATO member country for 39 seconds.
The projectile flew at an altitude of 400 meters with an acceleration of 800 km/h. The missile was able to fly inland for 1,5-2 km — it was detected by radars near the town of Oserdów in the Lublin Voivodeship. As you know, on March 24, winged warheads were directed by Moscow to strike the cities of Western Ukraine.
