Klitschko called on the authorities of Ukraine to urgently announce a nationwide lockdown

Decisive actions are necessary, he believes.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klychko called on the government to urgently consider the introduction of a national lockdown. He announced this during an online briefing on April 9

"Ukraine is now in the top three European countries in terms of the number of patients per day and the number of deaths from COVID-19. Only since the beginning of this month, in 8 days since April 1, 3556 people have died in the country. 392 patients died in Kyiv. This is in 8 days! Such a terrible dynamic of the spread of the virus...

How many more people must get sick, how many will die, so that the government, the central authorities understand that immediate measures are needed at the state level?! Otherwise, and in the absence of mass vaccination, the country faces disaster. Therefore, I appeal to the government to urgently consider the introduction of a nationwide and real lockdown."

Klitschko proposes, in particular, to limit movement between regions of the country and strengthen control over compliance with strict rules.

He emphasized that many people do not follow the anti-epidemic rules under strict restrictions.

According to Klitschko, there is an uncontrolled spread of the virus and its migration across the country.

"Resolute actions at the level of the country are necessary: it is better to suffer restrictions, but to save thousands of lives and prevent catastrophes," he believes.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health does not see a reason for introducing a nationwide quarantine. The head of the Ministry of Health, Maksym Stepanov, said this during the talk show "People Against" on the evening of April XNUMX.

— Despite the fact that there are already 13 regions in the "red" zone, we do not yet see the need to introduce a nationwide lockdown. Moreover, I want to say that according to the indicators, the Ivano-Frankivsk region will already be transferred to the yellow zone tomorrow. It will also happen with the Zakarpattia region in the near future, Stepanov emphasized.

The minister added that the two regions he named had completely normalized the situation. And that the regions have proven that it is possible to quickly "return to normal" if the quarantine is observed.
