The husband of the Queen of Great Britain, Prince Philip, died at the age of 99

It was the longest royal marriage in British history.

The spouse of the Queen of Great Britain, Prince Philip, died on April 9 at the age of 99. This was reported by the official Twitter of the royal family.

"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. "His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle," the message reads.

We will remind, in February the Duke of Edinburgh got into the hospital "as a precaution" after feeling sick, but it was not related to the coronavirus.

It was expected that he would stay there for a few days, but he was discharged only after a month. In early March, he underwent an operation due to heart problems.

The prince married Princess Elizabeth in 1947, five years before she became queen, and it was the longest royal marriage in British history. The couple has four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
