Apple's new product, Vision Pro, was supposed to change the rules of the game in the field of augmented reality. But after its launch last week, many first-time owners are returning the device. Users complain about its weight, discomfort and lack of practical use cases, reports Business Insider.
Vision Pro is an augmented reality headset (although Apple insists on the name spatial computer) that projects digital images onto the user's field of vision, creating a mixed reality effect. It runs Apple's own operating system, Vision OS, and can connect to other Apple devices via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
The device costs $3500 before taxes, making it one of the most expensive consumer gadgets on the market. Apple has big plans for the device, has been heavily promoting and advertising it, and claims it has the potential to change the way we interact with augmented reality.
However, many users who have purchased Vision Pro are unlikely to agree with this. Many first-time owners of the Vision Pro are not impressed with its performance or capabilities. According to Business Insider, some of the most common complaints are:
- The device is too heavy and uncomfortable for prolonged wear, even with a thick head strap that should distribute the weight evenly.
- The device does not offer enough advantages over existing technologies such as computers, tablets and smartphones. The only exception is watching movies and photos, which, according to some users, is more exciting and enjoyable on Vision Pro.
- The device is not compatible with many popular applications and services such as Netflix and YouTube. Users have to rely on Apple's own apps, such as Vision TV, Vision Music and Vision Photos, which have limited content and functionality.
Due to dissatisfaction, some Vision Pro buyers are returning the device to stores, while others are hoping for future updates and improvements.
Apple did not comment on negative reviews or the frequency of device returns.
