Payments to Ukrainian refugees — in which EU countries are they the largest

refugees

Among the criteria for choosing a country by Ukrainian refugees, social support and employment opportunities are very important. The material analyzes the amount of payments and the terms of their provision in different EU countries.

Denmark

Ukrainian refugees in Denmark who register as unemployed can receive on average approximately 850 euros (34,5 thousand UAH) per month, but after deductions for social housing and taxes, about 400 euros (16 thousand UAH) remain from this amount. The amount of assistance depends on the composition of the family:

  • a single father with a child - 1758 euros (71,5 thousand UAH);
  • adult without children – 880 euros (35,8 thousand UAH);
  • father and mother - 1230 euros (50 UAH);
  • an adult under 30 years old, living with parents - 379 euros (15,4 thousand UAH).
  • bonus for passing the Dansk 2 language exam – 229 euros (9300 UAH) per month for 6 months. Or those who have a diagnosis that prevents them from obtaining Dansk level 2.

Ireland

Weekly payments for adults in Ireland are €206 (UAH 8380). In addition, the country provides free housing for an unlimited period - mostly hotel rooms. Payments for children are also provided - about 140 euros (5700 UAH) per month.

At the same time, from February 2024, the Irish government introduced restrictions on payments for newly arrived refugees who will live in public housing. Places will be provided for up to 90 days, during which time payments will amount to EUR 38,80 (UAH 1570) per week. Payments for children will not change and will be at the level of 29,80 euros - that is, a mother with a child will receive 275 euros (11200 UAH) per month.

After eviction from public housing, payments should increase. Parents who alone raise children under 14 years of age are not required to look for work - they can have part-time employment up to 19 hours a week and earn up to 165 euros (6700 UAH) to receive payments of 208 euros (8400 UAH) per week and child support

Germany

From January 1, 2024, the standard amounts of social assistance and assistance to citizens increased by 12%. Bürgergeld (citizen's benefit) is paid as a basic security for jobseekers, it is given to both Germans and Ukrainians with temporary protection. Payment amounts:

  • single persons/single parents – 563 euros (22,9 thousand UAH);
  • in a married couple for one partner – 506 euros (20,5 thousand UAH);
  • teenagers 14-17 years old – 471 euros (19,1 thousand UAH);
  • children 6-13 years old – 390 euros (15,8 thousand UAH);
  • children under 5 years old – 357 euros (14,5 thousand UAH).

That is, a family consisting of a mother and two children aged 6 and 14 will receive 1424 euros (58 UAH). In addition, the employment center allocates 750-850 euros (30,5-34,5 thousand UAH) per person for housing rent. Amounts for personal school supplies are also increased by approximately 12%. In the first half of the academic year, payments will increase to 130 euros (5300 UAH).

Norway

Citizens of Ukraine with temporary protection receive payments of approximately 650 euros (26,4 thousand UAH) per adult and 300-400 euros (12,2 - 16,2 thousand UAH) per child. Refugees have the right to undergo an introductory (integration) program that includes Norwegian language and social studies. During the integration program, Ukrainians can receive about 1400 euros (57 UAH) per month, from which they pay for housing and utilities on their own. At the same time, you can ask for additional assistance to the subsistence minimum.

During the integration program, refugees can ask for financial assistance for children in the amount of 88 euros (3,5 thousand UAH) per month (can be received after one year of residence in Norway).

The government of Norway has decided to tighten the rules for Ukrainians in order to reduce the attractiveness of the country. In particular, integration payments for couples without children can be reduced by 530 euros per month. The government proposes to provide a one-time payment of 8200 euros (333,6 thousand UAH) upon the birth of a child only to those refugees who will live in the country for 12 months.

Norway also pays funds for returning home and accommodation for the first time - 1500 euros (61 UAH).
