The peak of the third wave of COVID-19 has passed — Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

Scientists expect an improvement in the epidemic situation.

Ukrainian scientists believe that the peak of the third wave of the coronavirus has passed, but the death rate remains at a high level. This is stated in the review of the working group of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

"During the week of 7.04/13.04.2021-XNUMX/XNUMX/XNUMX, Ukraine experienced a peak in the number of new cases identified per day. Although the data of official statistics may be slightly distorted due to the irregularity of entering outdated cases, the dynamics of the total number of positive PCR tests indicates that the plateau period has passed and the decline has begun," the message says.

Scientists note that the decrease in the number of newly identified cases occurs in more than half of the regions of Ukraine.

At the same time, the peak of fatal cases has not yet passed, and the beginning of a decrease in the number of deaths can be expected next week.

The situation with hospitalizations is also improving. The number of new hospitalizations is slowly decreasing, but the occupancy of oxygen beds is still increasing. Improvement of hospital dynamics is expected in about two weeks.

Another indicator of positive dynamics is the positivity of test samples, which during the last week decreased from 33,3% to 32,4% against the background of a decrease in the volume of tests.

It should be noted that the day before, the head of the Ministry of Health, Maksym Stepanov, also stated that Ukraine has reached the peak of the third wave of the coronavirus and the number of hospitalizations is gradually decreasing.
