Minister of Culture Tkachenko resigns amid scandal

He sharply criticized the authorities.

Alexander Tkachenko, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy, submitted his resignation from his post on Thursday, November 11.

He stated that the reason for this was the government's decision to remove Goskino from his ministry and the too small budget that is planned to be allocated to culture in 2022.

As Tkachenko said on Facebook:

"Today I wrote a resignation letter. About the reasons. The decision of the Cabinet of Ministers regarding Goskino was made without consultation with the Ministry. It is illogical to take Goskino away from the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and hand him over to the Cabinet of Ministers. This is how to take away the transport department from the company and transfer it to the management of the board of directors. Such styles and approaches to process management surprise me - they are not my concept and values.

Instead of continuing the implementation of the European concept of the reform of the transfer of operational functions to services and relevant agencies, which I insisted on since February, a decision is being made that I cannot agree with. And it is not unique.

For example, according to the administrative reform, at the beginning of the year, the government decided to create the State Service and the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage. After that, a few months later, the ministry received a letter from the prime minister about the withdrawal of our proposal to create these institutions. The filling of the operational functionality of the State Arts Center was also blocked.

They write that Goskino's broadcast was the last straw for me. Then I will remind you about the penultimate one - no less painful. Budget for culture-2022. Both the nature of the discussion and the final amount are unacceptable to me."

The minister also said that in a year and a half of working in the ministry, he "managed to do about 50% of what was planned", but he has something to be proud of.

On average, he called the launch of the program "Travel through Ukraine"; the "Big Restoration" program, under which 57 objects of cultural heritage have already received a subsidy from the state budget for restoration and restoration; development of the Information Security Strategy, etc.

Previously, sources of "Ukrainian Pravda". Life" reported that Alexander Tkachenko will resign on November 11, because the Cabinet of Ministers at the November 10 meeting voted to separate Goskino from the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.

Tkachenko found out about this after the fact, since at that time he was on a business trip to Paris for the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference. The source called Goskino's separation from the Ministry of Culture "the last straw" for Tkachenko.

We remind you that Oleksandr Tkachenko became the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine on June 4, 2020.

Prior to that, he headed the 1+1 Media holding for many years, leaving the post of CEO on August 20, 2019.
