The list of the main figures in the Maidan case was announced

The prosecutor's office suspects ten former top officials of suppression of protests on the Maidan, which led to victims.

At a briefing on Wednesday, November 17, Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova announced the names of ten former top officials who are suspects in the Maidan case.

So, the suppression of protest actions in the winter of 2013-2014 is suspected:

  • former president Viktor Yanukovych;
  • ex-Minister of Internal Affairs Vitaliy Zakharchenko;
  • ex-deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Viktor Ratushniak;
  • ex-head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kyiv and the Kyiv region Valery Mazan;
  • ex-commander of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sergey Shulyak;
  • ex-commander of Berkut in Kyiv, Sergey Kusyuk;
  • ex-head of public security militia in Kyiv Petr Fedchuk;
  • ex-Minister of Defense of Ukraine Pavel Lebedev;
  • ex-head of the SBU Alexander Yakymenko;
  • ex-deputy head of the SBU Vladimir Totskyi.

"Their actions led to mass casualties among the protesters. 67 participants of the action, 13 law enforcement officers were killed. 877 civilians and 132 law enforcement officers were injured," Venediktova said.

According to her, the suspects face life imprisonment, but they are all on the territory of Russia, which does not extradite them.

"They are all on the run. Visiting our northern neighbor. They are not there by chance. And it is not by chance that the Russian Federation protects them. Even if the suspects are not extradited to bring them to justice in Ukraine, and we all understand that today and tomorrow no one will extradite them to us," she said.

Despite this, the Prosecutor General insists that the court sentence be executed. "On the territory of which state it will be implemented - we will see," she added.

Also, the Prosecutor General's Office reported that more than 10 requests for the extradition of Yanukovych and his entourage were sent to the Russian Federation, but they were refused.

Today it became known about the completion of the investigation into the violent confrontation with the protesters on the Maidan, which lasted for almost eight years.
