The EU hopes that unvaccinated tourists will be able to travel in Europe this summer, but they do not promise anything

German Chancellor Angela Merkel shared her thoughts.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that she hopes that people who have not been vaccinated against the coronavirus will also be able to go on summer vacations in Europe. This is reported by "European Truth" with reference to The Local.

"Given how low infection rates are already in some EU countries, such as Portugal, I really hope that we will be able to afford, in general, what was possible last summer," Merkel said.

The chancellor emphasized that the possibility of summer vacations in Europe "of course" applies to everyone, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not.

"At the same time, I cannot yet name the day when it will happen, and I cannot promise anything," she added.

According to her, as the level of infection decreases, the restrictions in Germany will be lifted. "I hope this will be the case with all of Europe," the chancellor added.

Due to the fact that in almost all EU countries the incidence rate was below 50 per 100 inhabitants for most of last summer, very minor restrictions were imposed on travel within the bloc.

The chancellor added that EU leaders discussed digital vaccination certificates at the informal summit in Porto, the so-called "green certificate".

She said that, despite the presence of technical requirements, such as compatibility, there are still unresolved issues related to the mutual recognition of vaccines not licensed in the EU.
