The terrorist killed in Vienna turned out to be a 20-year-old man with dual citizenship of Austria and North Macedonia, he was armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and a machete, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, Karl Nehammer, said.
"He had a shortened Kalashnikov assault rifle, a rifle, another firearm and a machete," Nehammer said on Tuesday in Vienna, a speech broadcast live by the German TV channel Welt.
"The criminal already had a criminal record for a request to leave for "jihad" and a request to join the terrorist organization "Islamic State". Then he was sentenced to 22 years in prison, but he was released early," said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The shooting took place in Vienna on Monday evening near the Schwedenplatz square near the main synagogue of the city of Stadttempel. Chancellor Sebastian Kurz confirmed on the air of the ORF TV channel that the police consider the incident to be a terrorist act.
At least four people died as a result of the attack.
