The President of the United States, Joe Biden, called the forced landing of the plane in Minsk and the detention of journalist Roman Protasevich "a denial of international norms" and condemns similar incidents.
The USA joins the countries of the world in demanding his (Protasevich's - ed.) release, as well as the release of hundreds of political prisoners who are unjustly held by the Lukashenko regime."
"I join the many calls for an international investigation to clarify all the circumstances of the case," the US president said.
Biden welcomed the news that the European Union called for targeted economic sanctions and other measures, and asked his team to develop appropriate options for bringing the perpetrators to justice in close coordination with the European Union, other allies, partners and international organizations.
In addition, the US president assured the unconditional support of the people of Belarus in the fight against tyranny.
