Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny returned to Russia from Germany, and upon arrival he was detained at the airport.
"At Sheremetyevo airport, officers of the investigation department of the operational department of the FSIN of Russia in Moscow detained Aleksey Navalny, sentenced to a conditional sentence, who was wanted since December 29, 2020 for multiple violations of the probationary period," the FSIN said.
The court will determine the further measure of restraint of Navalny, until then he will be in custody.
After Navalny announced his intention to return to Russia, the FSIN reported that it planned to detain him, since the court had to consider the question of replacing the conditional term with a real one due to "malicious violations" of the conditional sentence regime. Navalny has two conditional convictions. The first, in the case of "Kirovles", is connected with embezzlement of more than 16 million rubles; the second, in the "Yves Rocher" case, with embezzlement of over 30 million rubles.
Navalny himself denies all the charges.
