Great Britain and the European Union successfully agreed on the texts of the agreement regarding the future relations of the parties after Brexit. This is reported by the agency Bloomberg with reference to sources familiar with the situation.
Some other major European mass media received the same information. Soon after that, the leaders of Great Britain and the EU announced the agreement.
In particular, Great Britain has regained control over the border, trade, the judicial system and fishing waters, Downing Street declares.
The document states that London and Brussels "signed the first trade agreement based on zero duties and zero quotas."
According to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the British side managed to work out an agreement on future relations after Brexit.
"We finally found an agreement. It was a long and winding road, but we can demonstrate a good deal," von der Leyen said. "It's a fair, balanced deal, and it's a responsible thing for both sides," she added.
Let us remind you that Great Britain officially left the European Union on February 1. By the end of 2020, the parties have agreed on a transition period during which most EU laws will continue to apply in the United Kingdom, including trade rules. By the end of the transition period, Brussels and London had to agree on the format of future relations and conclude a new trade agreement.
