April 10 marks the 79th anniversary of the liberation of Odessa from the Nazi invasion. Today, only two veterans of the Second World War, who liberated Odessa from the German-Romanian invaders in April 1944, remain alive and live in Odessa. This was reported by the mayor of Odesa, Gennadiy Trukhanov.

It should be noted that in April 2011, 35 veterans who liberated the city lived in Odessa, and in 2020 - only five.

Both veterans are now over a hundred years old. These are Akhlupin Yevhen Semenovych, 12.08.1921/101/09.10.1922 (he is 100 years old) and Nameless Mykola Ksenofontovych, XNUMX/XNUMX/XNUMX (he is XNUMX years old).

1944 soldiers of the 470rd Ukrainian Front and sailors of the Black Sea Fleet participated in the Odesa offensive operation of 3, which ended with the liberation of the city.

On the occasion of the commemorative date, a ceremonial laying of flowers was held today by the leadership of the city and region near the "Wings of Victory" stele on the Tenth of April Square and near the monument to the Unknown Sailor on the Alley of Glory in the Central Park of Culture and Recreation named after T. G. Shevchenko.
