On the night of July 18, three unknown persons attacked a border patrol on the Ukrainian-Russian section of the state border in the Sumy region. This was reported by the State Border Service of Ukraine.
Offenders inflicted physical injuries on two border guards. In addition, they managed to take possession of the service weapon.
"Through timely joint actions with the National Police, the weapon was returned. The search for persons involved in this crime is underway," the State Border Service said.
On this fact, law enforcement officers are conducting urgent investigative actions within the framework of criminal proceedings entered into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under Articles 262 and 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Kidnapping, misappropriation, extortion of firearms, ammunition, and threats or violence against a law enforcement officer). Note that separate sanctions of these articles provide up to 15 years of imprisonment as punishment.
At this time, the protection of the state border is carried out intensively. Sergei Deineko, head of the State Border Service, arrived at the scene of the accident.
