The Verkhovna Rada passed the law on the referendum

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading the bill No. 3612 on democracy through the All-Ukrainian referendum

Today, January 26, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading the bill No. 3612 on democracy through the All-Ukrainian referendum.

The corresponding decision was supported by 255 people's deputies.

According to the law, the following may be brought to the referendum:

  • approval of the law on amendments to sections of the Constitution I (General provisions), III (elections. Referendum), XIII (Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine);
  • issues of national importance;
  • question about changing the territory of Ukraine;
  • the question of the termination of the law or its separate provisions.
  • The following questions cannot be the subject of a referendum:
  • contravene the Constitution and generally recognized principles and norms of international law;
  • aimed at liquidating the independence of Ukraine, violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity, creating a threat to national security, inciting enmity;
  • bills on the budget, taxes and amnesty;
  • referred by legislation to the management of law enforcement agencies, the prosecutor's office or the court.

In the draft law, it is proposed that only one question could be submitted to the referendum and the answers "yes" or "no" were provided.
