In Kyrgyzstan, the president and prime minister disappeared, security forces closed the border

Deputy Head of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan Omurbek Suvanaliev stated that the whereabouts of President Sooronbai Jeenbekov and Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov are unknown.

"The whereabouts of Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov and Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov are unknown. For security purposes, it was decided to close the border, he said. — Officials who have left their workplaces are in conspiratorial locations. We cannot say exactly where, many of them are hiding. Some of them, like Boronov, assure that they work remotely and did not resign. There are quite a lot of such revanchists, which can lead to big clashes."

According to him, the first persons of the country have not appeared in public since the beginning of the protest actions. There were several addresses of the president published on the Internet, but it is not known where they are recorded.

Suvanaliev added that the political situation in the country remains tense: "Political parties cannot come to an agreement. We take all measures with the power unit to prevent collisions. The parties must sit down at the negotiating table so as not to destabilize the situation."

Let us recall the background of the conflict in Kyrgyzstan. Parliamentary elections were held in the country on October 4. According to preliminary data, 4 political forces have overcome the electoral threshold. As a result, 10 out of 12 losing opposition parties refused to recognize the preliminary voting results. The leader of the "Bir Bol" party, Altynbek Sulaimanova, called for new elections without the participation of parties connected to the government.

In addition, international observers stated that there were serious violations in the elections, in particular bribery and intimidation of voters.

Already on October 5, protests against the results of the parliamentary elections began in the capital of Kyrgyzstan and other cities. The participants demanded the annulment of the voting results and the holding of re-elections. Security forces dispersed the protestors with grenades and water cannons. According to the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, 590 citizens were injured, of which 150 were hospitalized. One person died.

At night, the participants of the mass action in the capital of Kyrgyzstan occupied the building of the parliament and the presidential administration.

After that, part of the protesters moved to the building of the State Committee of National Security, and the security forces that were with the committee moved to the side of the protesters.

After negotiations with the leadership of the State Committee, at the request of the protesters, the former president of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, was released from the pre-trial detention center, where he had been held since August 2019 on charges of corruption.

As a result, on October 6, the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan decided to invalidate the election results, but the clashes continue.
