Russia officially recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed "DPR" and "LPR". This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a televised address to Russians on Monday, February 21.
"I consider it necessary to make a long overdue decision. Recognize the sovereignty of the "DPR" and "LPR". I ask the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to support this decision, as well as to ratify agreements on friendship and mutual assistance with these republics," Putin said and signed the corresponding decrees.
After that, Putin, together with the leaders of the "LDNR" Denis Pushylin and Leonid Pasechnyk, signed agreements on friendship and mutual assistance.
Let us remind you that today Putin held an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, at which the issue of Donbass was discussed. This was connected with the request of the heads of the "LDNR" to recognize the independence of the "republics". At the same time, many of those who spoke at the Security Council of the Russian Federation immediately proposed to include the "LDNR" in the composition of Russia.
