On October 25, 2020, the first round of local elections was held. The people of Odessa faced a difficult task - to express their preference for the candidate for the post of city mayor, parties, and also to cast their vote for the most preferred candidate from the party.
Thus, voters had the opportunity to more accurately determine the future composition of the city council.
According to the exit poll of the first round, the distribution of forces in the city council was established as follows:
The first place with a result of 23,77% was won by the "Trust in business" party of Gennady Trukhanov. It is followed by OPZZ with a result of 22,38%, and the third place was won by the party "Servant of the People" with a result of 15,95%.
The top five leaders also included "Eurosolidar" - 12,72% and the Sharia Party with a result of 7,63%.
As for the mayoral elections, in the first round no one managed to overcome the threshold of 50%. Gennady Trukhanov won 34,4% of the votes, and the main rival in the upcoming second round was Mykola Skoryk, who won 17,93% of the votes. This was the reason for holding the second round, which was scheduled for November 15.
It is noteworthy that in the period from October 25 to November 15, some candidates who did not receive enough votes to advance to the second round called on citizens to vote for Mykola Skoryk. Among them were ex-mayor candidates Yevgeny Chervonenko, Sergey Kyvalov and Dmitry Golubov. In relation to Gennady Trukhanov, the opponents were not so favorable.
This can be explained by the fact that the opposition preferred the representative of the opposition and thus expressed a negative attitude towards the current government.
On November 15, the second round of elections for the mayor of Odessa took place, the incumbent mayor, Gennady Trukhanov, won. He won 54,28% of the votes, and his opponent Nikolay Skoryk 42,17%,
It is worth noting that in the 2015 elections, Gennady Trukhanov won in the first round, gaining 52,2% of the vote. Why was it not possible to repeat the success of the last election campaign?
Of course, during the five-year term of the mayor's office, both new followers of his policies and people who disapprove of his actions appear. How rational or emotional are the citizens' opinions is a debatable question, but the fact that after five years, the majority of voters still turned out to be favorable to Trukhanov's candidacy testifies to the competence of the mayor's team and the mayor himself, as well as the effectiveness of their actions.
Also, do not forget that the change of presidential and parliamentary power and the re-election of the current mayor testify to the strength of his positions.
Accordingly, we can state that within the framework of democratic elections, the results of the election campaign of Gennady Trukhanov are very successful, and the level of trust of citizens is high.
