The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, had a telephone conversation with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. This was reported in the press service of the head of state.
The leaders discussed the security situation around our state, as well as the steps taken to de-escalate and achieve peace within the framework of the existing negotiation formats, in particular in Normandy.
Zelensky and Michel exchanged opinions and assessments regarding the latest international events, negotiations and contacts with strategic partners.
The President of Ukraine noted the importance of unifying and coordinating political and diplomatic efforts with the goal of unblocking the peace process and restoring stability.
"We are in favor of a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict. We will not give in to provocations," the head of state said.
In this regard, he thanked Michel and the leaders of the EU for the fact that their diplomats remain in our country and will support us while doing their work.
"We understand all the risks and are ready to develop any scenario. But we have been in this situation since 2014. And today, the biggest enemy for us is panic," Zelensky emphasized.
He also stated the need to introduce preventive sanctions against the Russian Federation in order to deter the aggressive intentions of the Kremlin.
Particular attention was paid to increasing the defense and financial stability of Ukraine against the background of current challenges and further practical interaction with the European Union.
The head of state thanked the EU for the decision to provide a package of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine. He also confirmed the immutability of Ukraine's European integration course and noted the need to define clear perspectives on the part of the European Union regarding the full membership of our state.
For his part, the President of the European Council confirmed the European Union's decisive and unyielding support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
