In Odessa, a marriage scammer cheated an Englishman of 250 thousand dollars

James' story reached the British Foreign Office.

A marriage scammer cheated a 52-year-old citizen of Great Britain for 250 dollars. A criminal from Odessa and her accomplices arranged a fictitious wedding with a British man, after which he lost his money. This is reported Air force

A man named James, who does not know Russian, communicated with a new acquaintance Irina with the help of a translator, paying 150 dollars a day.

At the same time, intimacy, even kisses, were prohibited. Irina told the Briton that she does not agree to sex before marriage.

"I thought it was a very high moral standard," James said. "Obviously, she was very well brought up."

Over time, the "lovers" got engaged, and the Briton decided to move to Odessa and buy a house. Irina offered him to transfer 200 dollars to buy an apartment in Odessa — but to a special account of her friend Krystyna's company. After that, the victim was convinced that they should urgently arrange a fictitious marriage with Krystyna because the bank could block the money.

The fictitious "wedding", which cost the British man another 20 thousand dollars, was played on the beach of Otrada, and then something was put in the man's drink and he ended up in the hospital.

Later he found out the true value of the purchased apartment. It cost 63 thousand dollars instead of the declared 200 thousand, and half of it belongs to the fictitious wife.

As a result of this scam, the foreigner lost 250 thousand dollars. The Odessa police did not meet the man, and he had to turn to private detectives who try to "extort" money from scammers.

It is noteworthy that the story of James reached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain, which even changed its recommendations on trips to Ukraine.

"There are possible cases of marriage fraud and extortion requests against foreign citizens," the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine now says. "Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that you will be able to return your money if you become a victim of such fraud."
