In 2023, the World School Football Championship and the World Winter Gymnasium will be held in Ukraine. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"For the first time in the history of school sports, Ukraine has received the right to host the World School Football Championship and the World Winter Gymnasium in 2023. I am convinced that we will hold them at a high level," the head of state noted on his Facebook page.
The President advocates that there should be more space for sports in children's lives.
"I'm not talking about the fact that everyone should become a professional athlete - no. Simply, every modern child should be with sports on "you". Understand that some species teach to play in a team, others rely only on themselves. Sport teaches you to win, teaches you, finally, to accept defeats with dignity and become stronger after them. It is not for nothing that one of my priorities is the development of sports infrastructure - playgrounds, stadiums, pools - and the support and development of sports sections in educational institutions. We are doing it," Zelensky noted.
The press secretary of the head of state, Sergey Nikiforov, added that the winter and summer gymnasiums are the largest global sports events among high school students. They are conducted by the International Federation of Student Sports (ISF), which unites 129 countries.
"These are 55 types of activities, summer and winter. Accordingly, we will have a winter Gymnasium. Thousands of children from all over the world and their parents will come to Ukraine and will be able to see our country. And for Ukrainians, this is an opportunity to prove that we are capable of holding a larger-scale event, namely, a real, adult Olympics, as the President of Ukraine had previously talked about," Nikiforov said.
The holding of the World Winter Gymnasium - 2023 in Ukraine will be a landmark event both for the popularization of sports, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle among the student youth, and for strengthening the authority of our country among the progressive civilized world community.
