Since November, some cities in Ukraine have started to be covered with snow. According to the calculations of the majority of modern numerous climate models, the winter season of 2021-2022 in the territory of Europe and Ukraine, in particular, is expected to be quite mild.
As the head of the Department of Applied Metrology and Climatology of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute Vera Balabukh said, this winter will be warmer than the previous ones. About 60% of winter days will be dominated by abnormally warm weather. However, such a situation will not be observed all the time. The remaining 40% of days the weather may be at or below normal. In winter, you can expect streams of arctic cold.
In addition, the El Niño current in the Pacific Ocean will be more active this winter. It increases the probability of arctic air circulation against the background of a warm winter. At the same time, the average temperature for the season will be 1-1,5 degrees higher than last year's values.
The Ukrhydrometeorological Center predicts a gradual decrease in temperature for the first decade of December, the weather will become more and more wintry. The average air temperature in December 2021 will fluctuate between "plus" and "minus".
Vera Balabukh noted that January will be the most abnormally warm. The average monthly temperature is expected to be 2-3 degrees above normal, which corresponds to the beginning of winter.
Precipitation this winter will most likely be within normal limits. This means that there will be no prolonged snowfalls, as well as long periods without snow.
