The Council has tightened responsibility for violation of traffic rules

At the meeting on Tuesday, February 16, the Verkhovna Rada increased responsibility in Ukraine for drunken driving, speeding and other traffic violations. 

2695 People's Deputies supported the corresponding draft of Law No. 325 in the second reading. 208 votes were given by "servants of the people", 17 - OPZZ, 21 - "Eurosolidarity", 22 - "Batkivshchyna", 17 - "For the future", 16 - "Voice", 15 - "Doverie", 9 - non-partisan People's Deputies.

According to the document, fines from 17 to 51 thousand hryvnias (currently 10,2 thousand hryvnias) are planned for driving while intoxicated in Ukraine, and up to 3,4 thousand hryvnias for speeding.

The minimum fine will also be increased to 510 hryvnias for such common violations: 

  • belt not fastened;
  • absence of a helmet by the motorcyclist;
  • unlit license plate;
  • talking on the phone while driving without a headset;
  • Violation of the rules of driving at intersections, stops, driving through a prohibiting traffic light, overtaking rules.

For fleeing the scene of a traffic accident, it is proposed to increase the fine from 255 to 3,4 thousand hryvnias.

The same fine in the amount of UAH 3,4 thousand is proposed to be introduced for speeding in populated areas by more than 50 km/h. At the same time, for exceeding the speed from 20 to 50 km/h, they want to fine 340 hryvnias.

In addition, the Verkhovna Rada did not allow unreasonable stops of drivers. The People's Deputies supported the amendment, which removes this provision from draft law No. 2695.
