The Ministry of Health of Ukraine is categorically against the transfer or cancellation of the enhanced quarantine, which is planned for the period from January 8 to January 24. This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Health, Maksym Stepanov, during the briefing.
He noted that currently approximately 5-7 thousand new cases of COVID-19 are recorded per day. Almost 200 people die from this disease every day. More than 23 thousand people are in hospitals and need constant medical care due to the coronavirus disease. At least 10% of them are seriously ill, the number of which is increasing.
"Everyone understands, and this is what epidemiologists are warning us about, that after the New Year holidays we will have an increase in the number of patients with COVID-19. We all saw that there were still mass gatherings of people, there was still a celebration. This is how we are arranged. And we immediately understood that everything would happen this way," said the head of the Ministry of Health.
According to him, during January-February, an increase in the number of patients with COVID-19 and an increase in the burden on the medical system is predicted, including due to the seasonal incidence of influenza. The strengthening of quarantine measures in January will allow the country not to resort to similar measures during the spring of 2021.
