General Mykola Balan, the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, wrote a resignation letter due to the shooting of his subordinate in the Dnipro. He announced this at a press conference on January 27.
"Taking into account the fact that the commander or commander is responsible for any actions, this morning I wrote a report to the Minister of Internal Affairs and a petition to the President of Ukraine for the resignation and dismissal of the commander of the National Guard," said Balan.
Balan added that he suspended the command of the regiment in which the National Guardsmen involved in the protection of Yuzhmash served, so that they could not influence the investigation.
In turn, the shooter, National Guardsman Artem Ryabchuk, was already informed of the suspicion and an examination was ordered. He was immediately charged with three articles of the Criminal Code: 115 (intentional murder); 408 (desertion), 410 (abduction, embezzlement, extortion of military weapons and ammunition).
He faces a life sentence.
Law enforcement officers will also conduct investigations to establish whether the criminal was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
