Today, the Standing Committee on Education, Science, Youth Policy, Sports, Culture and Tourism of the Odesa Regional Council identified 100 gifted children of the region, who will receive a scholarship of UAH 20 each from the regional council.
As Dmytro Kovbasyuk, a member of the committee, said, parents, schools or community councils where children live submit applications for scholarships to the Odesa Regional Council commission with a description of the children's achievements, among which the best are chosen.
"In general, the regional council has allocated 2 million hryvnias for such scholarships, so each of the hundred best, talented and gifted children of the region will receive 20 thousand hryvnias this year. Last year, due to the war, this program did not work, but this year we found opportunities to celebrate the children of Odesa region," said the deputy.
Dmytro Kovbasiuk added that this year, in total, more than three hundred applications were submitted, from which the commission chose the best hundred.
Scholarship applications are divided into three categories of achievement - sports, arts and education. The scholarships themselves were divided into three categories as follows: 44% — for achievements in sports; 30% - for achievements in the field of culture and art and 26% - in the field of education. It is also worth noting that 56% of scholarship recipients are girls.
"Even despite the war, our children continue to study well, take part in contests, competitions and Olympiads. They represent our region and country at the international level, for which we are very grateful. There are even winners of Ukrainian and European championships, masters of sports among the hundred scholarship holders of the regional council. The scholarship from the Odesa Regional Council is support for them, and most importantly - recognition and thanks for their achievements," added Dmytro Kovbasyuk.
