The US asks Ukraine to demonstrate its readiness for negotiations with Russia

Washington is concerned that support for Ukraine may weaken in some countries

In Washington, they are worried that in some countries, support for Ukraine may weaken due to Kyiv's categorical approach to negotiations.

The administration of US President Joe Biden privately called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to show openness to negotiations with Russia. He writes about this with reference to his sources The Washington Post.

According to the publication, the USA is asking official Kyiv to abandon its public decision not to participate in peace talks as long as Vladimir Putin is the president of the Russian Federation.

The request is aimed at ensuring the preservation of Ukrainian support from other countries that face "voter fears about the prolongation of the war in Ukraine for years."

Ukraine's refusal to negotiate with Russia has caused concern in parts of Europe, Africa and Latin America, where the devastating effects of the war have been severe.

The discussions show how complicated the Biden administration's position on Ukraine has become, as US officials publicly pledge to support Kyiv with huge amounts of aid "as much as it takes" while hoping to resolve the conflict, which has battered the global economy for the past eight months and caused fear of nuclear war.

During a trip to Kyiv on Friday, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the United States supports a just and lasting peace for Ukraine and said US support will continue regardless of domestic politics.

"We fully intend to ensure that the necessary resources are in place and we get the votes from both sides of the aisle to make that happen," he said at a briefing.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that it was out of the question about negotiations of Ukraine and Russia, since the Russian Federation is a "terrorist country".
