The plane with Pelosi landed at the airport in Taipei (Taiwan). The plane was accompanied by American fighters and aircraft carriers.
Nancy Pelosi said the US continues to oppose unilateral attempts to "change the status quo" on Taiwan. She also emphasized that her visit to Taiwan does not contradict the US policy towards China.
According to Pelosi, her visit is "a testament to the commitment of the United States to support Taiwan's democracy."
Pelosi will meet with Taiwan's president on Wednesday, August 3, before departing the island in the afternoon local time, according to the Central Taiwan News Agency.
China announced the beginning of targeted military operations to counter Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
