Campaigning for her election, Liz Truss promised to fight the energy crisis that gripped Britain. She also stressed that as prime minister she will continue to uncompromisingly support Ukraine and oppose Russia. Everyone remembered her statement that, if necessary, she would "without hesitation" press the nuclear button.
Boris Johnson led the Conservative Party, and with it the British government in 2019 after the resignation of Prime Minister Theresa May. He led the party to victory in the parliamentary elections with the best result in its modern history.
