At the moment, five mutations of the coronavirus have been recorded in Ukraine, all of them belong to the global genetic line B and originate from China. A new highly contagious strain of coronavirus that appeared in Great Britain has not been detected in Ukraine.
It is reported press service Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
Yes, all viruses naturally change over time, the coronavirus is no exception. Although Covid-1 mutates more slowly than the flu virus or HIV, changes do occur. Mutations can be fixed by scientists with the help of genetic analysis, but for this, the genome of the virus must be deciphered. Scientists deciphered the genome of the coronavirus in April, after which it became possible to trace mutations. On the territory of Ukraine, at the moment, samples from 9 regions of Ukraine were examined and the following variants of the coronavirus were found:
- B1 — viruses of this group belong to a large group of viruses circulating in Europe and originating from Italy,
- B1.1 — viruses of the B1 genetic line, which differ in three nucleotide substitutions (SNPs 28881GA, 28882GA, 28883GC),
- B1.1.1 — the circulation of these viruses was detected simultaneously on the territory of the EU countries and Great Britain,
- B1.5 — viruses of this group belong to a large group of viruses circulating in Europe and originating from Spain,
- B2 — viruses of this group circulate in more than 57 countries of the world on 6 continents.
