In Odessa, there is a critical situation with oxygen for patients with coronavirus. By evening, stocks may run out completely. This was announced at a remote meeting of the operational headquarters by the vice-mayor of the city, Mykhailo Kuchuk.
According to him, a car from the Donetsk region that will bring 18 tons of oxygen to hospitals left Odessa today. However, it is not known whether she will have time to reach Odessa by the evening. Also, the time may increase due to bureaucratic procedures.
"And there are problems with oxygen already now, in the morning. If the Odesa port plant does not produce at least two tons, the stocks will be completely exhausted by the evening," said the deputy mayor.
Officials noted that the city is also waiting for a decision from the region, since Odessa itself is not included in the application for the supply of medical oxygen from the plant. Therefore, it was unclear when and to which hospitals this cargo would arrive.
The health department of the city council reported that a total of 67% of all those hospitalized with COVID-19 in Odessa require oxygen support. According to them, it cannot be provided by oxygen concentrators, as patients need oxygen therapy with a high flow rate.
