Odessa vypy saves homeless animals and it inspires - the animal rights activist

More and more people in civilized countries prefer homeless animals when choosing a pet. People with good hearts rescue stray cats and dogs from the streets, take them from the cages of shelters. Moreover, the social status and well-being of these people does not matter. However, it is famous personalities who, by doing such good deeds, set an example for a wide range of people.

The leader of the initiative group for the protection of animal rights, Elena Marchenko, told the ElitExpert agency about the situation with homeless animals in Odessa, offered a solution to the problem, and cited the example of well-known Odessans who sheltered stray cats and dogs.

How do animals appear on the streets of cities?

— First, an excursion into history. When people domesticated dogs and cats, and since then took responsibility for their fate, they did not yet realize the consequences. In the modern world, the uncontrollable breeding of dogs and cats and all the unpleasant consequences arising from it are entirely the fault of man. In near and far abroad, after studying the problem, they realized that mainly the regiment of homeless dogs and cats is replenished at the expense of discarded offspring, as well as ex-pets expelled by the unfortunate owners. In civilized countries, it is the state, municipal authorities, who have taken responsibility for solving this already social problem. They legalized a few simple provisions:

  • dogs and cats that do not have a license for breeding and sale must be sterilized;
  • each pet must be registered and chipped;
  • Violators face hefty fines for animal release, uncontrollable offspring, and cruel treatment.

The implementation of all this is strictly controlled by state mechanisms.

What do we have?

- Everyone who is not too lazy breeds their dogs to sell "for health, so that they will give birth at least once" or in general, as it turns out. And as a result, society receives a large number of unwanted puppies and kittens thrown into garbage cans, landfills, and on the streets. Any pages in social networks are littered with ads about the necessary device of rejected, rejected and rejected people. And, in spite of this, the unfortunate owners continue to reproduce by means of their dogs and cats, puppies and kittens that no one needs.

What about local authorities?

- Mostly nothing. In some cities, there are municipal shelters, which are mostly in very poor condition with signs of corruption.

There is no municipal shelter in Odessa. There is, as the people call it, a "German shelter", essentially a sterilization center. It is not adapted for long-term residence of dogs. According to the "Catch, Sterilization, Release" program adopted in Odessa, dogs after sterilization are quickly returned to the streets of the city.

But there are still private shelters...

- First of all, they don't owe anyone anything. Secondly, they are often overcrowded, and thirdly, they also need something to feed the animals, and if you decide to add a dog or cat to them, then be prepared to pay for its lifelong maintenance. And this is at least 1000 hryvnias per month.

Thus, except for emergency veterinary care without follow-up care, which is not permanent and not around the clock, and private shelters, Odessans cannot count on anything. So there is only one way out of society. Make sure that every dog and cat has a loving family. Considering the fact that Odessa is a city of millionaires, and there are several thousands of homeless animals on the streets and in shelters, the question could be solved. I do not believe that out of a million there are not a few thousand people with good hearts.

What needs to be done for this?

— It is necessary to introduce the appropriate culture, "adopt" stray, street animals, necessarily sterilize them and register them. This is on the one hand. And on the other hand, he introduces the strictest legislative norms that were announced above. By the way, now most shelters give up already sterilized and vaccinated animals for "adoption" and register them upon "adoption".

Practically all possible options for dogs and cats for "adoption" can be found on the GladPat platform, which has combined information about shelters and their wards.

And while our society as a whole and at the legislative level is only gaining momentum in the desire to treat our younger brothers humanely and responsibly. There are people who do not wait for a convenient opportunity and, thanks to their kind hearts, rescue animals from the streets. These are the mentioned private shelters, individual families, people. Among them are respected, famous people, families, the example of which for many can serve as an impetus for making an important and responsible decision - "adopting" a homeless animal.

Who can you give as an example?

— From social networks and personal contact, I learned about such kind actions from the families of Georgy Deliev, Sofia Zarychanskaya, Diana Stavnytser, and Savva Lybkina.

The Delyev family "adopted" a dog from the shelter, which they are very happy about. Of course, she is inbred, but her love and devotion is no less, and even more, than in the purchased one, as she understands that she was saved. Georgy, by his example, teaches the younger generation a kind and humane attitude towards animals, shows that breed does not matter.

Sofia Zarichanskaya, the daughter of famous restaurateurs and philanthropists, rescued a freezing, hungry puppy from the street. Sofia loved the baby so much that, despite her tight work schedule and frequent travels, she decided to keep the dog with her. She gave her a rare beautiful name - Stacey. Now Stacey has not only a loving family, but also a life full of variety and exciting adventures. She travels around the world with her mistress and seems to like it very much.

Sofia Zarichanskaya

A well-known family of philanthropists, the owners of the TIS port, the Stavnitsers, while walking through the streets, rescued a homeless, out-of-breed dog that had to be fought off from other dogs. The dog was named Izy. She easily entered the family and is loved by all its members. Diana Stavnytser told about this on her page in social networks and in a personal conversation.

Restaurateur Savva Lybkin gave blood to homeless cats, dogs and cats that came to his Dacha restaurant. Over time, one of the cats moved to live with the family of Mikhail Zhvanetsky, and the dog Sausyska forever remained in the friendly family of the Dacha restaurant, becoming one of its attractions, a clear demonstration of humane attitude towards homeless animals.

These beautiful stories of salvation and friendship between humans and homeless animals inspire good deeds. Compassion has no species affiliation. If nature has gifted a person with the gift of feeling someone else's pain, he will never pass by a person in need of help, be it a person or an animal. And, of course, good deeds are contagious. I want to take an example from them. After such cases, you want to look around more often, noticing those who need help. Put a bowl with water and food, offer help, find a place in your heart and home for a tailed friend. They are waiting for you - on the streets, in shelters. They need a family, love, care.
