Oleg Bryndak: it is necessary to continue excavations on the 6-km Ovidiopolskaya road

The city authorities need to continue excavations on the 6th km of the Ovidiopolskaya road, where there are mass graves of victims of the communist repressions of 1937-38, despite the opposition of the public.

Oleh Bryndak, the manager of affairs of the executive committee of the Odessa city council, told ElitExpert about this agency.

"At this stage, the question of exhumation of the remains of those shot does not arise, while only preliminary search works are being conducted. The digging will be done directly by volunteers - Odessa searchers and their colleagues from other cities who took a vacation and came for the memorial vigil. This is their way of life.

The season is very short, we have two months for all the work. It is not about exhumation, but it is research work. If we find out that many victims of political repression are still underground, perhaps a memorial park should be made there."

At the same time, he promised that all works would be transparent.

"We are ready to act publicly and are even ready to install video surveillance cameras so that everyone can see what kind of work is currently being done at the site of the former NKVD special facility." he added.
