In Ukraine, mandatory basic military service may be introduced instead of conscription. This includes the bill on mobilization, which the People's Deputies are currently preparing for the second reading.
Mobilization continues in Ukraine today, and The Ministry of Defense published information about the provisions of draft law No. 10449 on mobilization measures and military training.
It is noted that it is proposed to introduce a mandatory basic service for young people over 18 years of age instead of the "stochka" from next year.
Mobilization is offered from 25 to 60 years, and from 2025, basic military training will be introduced in higher education institutions. Some categories of citizens are exempted from basic military training at universities.
Instead of conscription, basic military service is introduced for a period of 5 months in peacetime and 3 months in wartime. Citizens from the age of 18 can choose the time of basic military service. 18-year-olds, regardless of basic military training or service, will receive a deferment until they reach mobilization age.
It is also noted that the bill provides for 2 types of military training for men: basic military training and basic military service. The training will apply to the category of men studying in higher education institutions. Those who do not study at the university will serve.
