US President Joe Biden announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine. Its size is 1 billion dollars. It was reported on site White House and press service of the Pentagon.
"Today, following the passage of the National Security Addendum just signed by the President, the Department of Defense announced significant new security assistance to urgently address Ukraine's critical security and defense needs," — the message says.
This announcement is the fifty-sixth tranche of equipment the Biden administration is providing to Ukraine from the Defense Department's stockpile beginning in August 2021.
"Now America will send Ukraine the help they need to fight on... I want to move this package forward as soon as possible." - announced the US president.
According to Biden, the new American aid will be delivered to Ukraine in a matter of hours.
"In the next few hours, literally in a few hours, we will start sending air defense equipment, ammunition for artillery and rocket systems, armored vehicles to Ukraine," — said the American president.
As the Pentagon reported, the new package of military aid from the United States included:
- RIM-7 and AIM-9M missiles for air defense systems;
- anti-aircraft missiles Stinger;
- small arms and additional ammunition for small arms, including 50-caliber anti-drone ammunition;
- additional ammunition for HIMARS;
155 mm artillery shells, including high-explosive shells and improved conventional dual-purpose munitions; - 105 mm caliber artillery shells;
- 60 mm mortar shells;
- Bradley infantry fighting vehicles;
- mine-resistant vehicles with ambush protection (MRAP);
- high mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWV);
- logistics vehicles;
- tactical vehicles for towing and transporting equipment;
- TOW anti-tank missiles;
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems;
- high-precision aviation ammunition;
- airfield auxiliary equipment;
- anti-armor mines;
- Claymore anti-personnel mines;
- explosive munitions for clearing obstacles;
- night vision devices;
- spare parts, field equipment, training ammunition, maintenance and other support equipment.
"this package includes ammunition, weapons and equipment to support Ukraine's ability to defend its front lines, defend its cities and resist ongoing Russian attacks. With the bipartisan support of Congress, Ukraine can count on strong and determined U.S. leadership to provide consistent security support – along with nearly 50 Allies and partners – to ensure that its brave defenders have the critical capabilities they need to counter Russian aggression.” - emphasized in the Pentagon.
