"ElitExpert" continues to introduce you to the charitable organizations of Odessa and the region that help Ukrainians in this difficult time. Today, our attention was drawn to the Charitable Fund "Help Odessa". We spoke with its founder about the organization's work and achievements Roman Bochkarev.
— When was your foundation founded?
BF "Help Odessa" began its work in 2017 in the direction of helping children from boarding schools and low-income families. Over time, the foundation's team grew, and therefore our capabilities also increased. We started helping pensioners and veterans, organizing charity concerts and fairs, the funds from which went to the treatment of sick children.
— What is volunteering for you and why do you do it?
I believe that every person has a spiritual need to help the needy, and it is not about five hryvnias from a beggar at a traffic light. For example, you walk down the street and see that a person has become ill - you give him first aid, and the mood becomes better from a good deed. Volunteering is like a feeling when you give another person a gift and enjoy their emotions. In general, any volunteer does good deeds primarily for himself, for his moral satisfaction.
But volunteering does not always go smoothly. There are a lot of requests and it is not always possible to satisfy everyone. For example, during the quarantine, we delivered food packages to previously compiled lists and addresses, and when we arrived at the place, many neighbors expressed their dissatisfaction - why they were not brought help, but this is life, and you can always find a way out of the situation.
— What do you think is important to know about charities?
First of all, you need to make sure that the organization is officially registered and works openly, and you can help it not only with donations, but also personally participate in events. Fraudsters can collect funds for the "left" card using the name and brands that are familiar, so you need to be careful and always check the information.
