US President Joe Biden will temporarily hand over powers to Vice President Kamala Harris. This was announced in the White House.
This is Biden's first medical examination as president, the examination will take place on the eve of the 79-year-old politician.
"This morning, the president will go to the medical center for a routine medical examination. While the president will be there, he will undergo a routine colonoscopy. President Biden will hand over power to the vice president for a short period of time while he is under anesthesia," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.
She noted that later the White House will publish a report on the state of health of the head of state.
Let us remind you that in 2002 and 2007, former US President George Bush also transferred his powers to then-Vice President Richard Cheney. Bush, like Biden, underwent a colonoscopy during a medical examination and was under anesthesia.
