A military coup took place in Myanmar

The Myanmar military took control of the country

The Myanmar military took control of the country. On the morning of February 1, the head of Myanmar's ruling party "National League for Democracy", state adviser and de facto leader of the country Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar President Win Myin and other members of the political leadership were detained.

A state of emergency has been declared in the country for an hour.

According to the statement signed by First Vice President Myung Swee and announced on the Myawady TV channel owned by the military, state power will be transferred to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Myung Aung Khlain.

In turn, as he writes RIA News, residents of Myanmar's cities are massively withdrawing cash from ATMs and buying products. In addition, there are problems with the Internet and communication in the country. Banks closed because of this. Public transport is also suspended. Work also stopped at construction sites. Residents learned about what was happening in the country from television and radio.

In recent months, relations between the country's leadership and the army have sharply worsened due to the dissatisfaction of the military with the results of the November elections in the country, which they declared rigged.

Last week, the commander-in-chief of Myanmar's armed forces, Myung Aung Hlain, threatened to cancel the constitution if, according to him, the laws were not enforced. Then the military denied that the commander-in-chief threatened to organize a coup d'état.

Myanmar was under military rule until the beginning of democratic reforms in 2011.
