The President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier presented the social democrat Olaf Scholz with an official letter of appointment as chancellor.
Scholz is now on his way back to the Bundestag, where he and his ministers will be sworn in.
In order to be approved as chancellor, he needed to receive at least 369 votes out of 736 members of the Bundestag. Scholz received 395 votes of deputies, 303 voted against.
The Social Democratic Party of Germany, which won the September elections, formed a coalition with the Free Democratic Party and the Greens. The new Cabinet of Germany will include the following persons:
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be Annalena Berbok, a well-known harsh critic of Russia and China, the head of the department for economic and climate affairs, as well as the vice chancellor - Robert Habek. The Ministry of Finance will go to the head of the Liberals, Christian Lindner, and the Ministry of Defense will go to the representative of the Social Democrats, Christina Lambrecht.
Retired Angela Merkel held the post of chancellor for four terms, starting in November 2015.
