Putin signed a law allowing him to run for president again

And twice

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law according to which he will be able to run for the post of president twice more. The document is published on the official Internet portal of legal acts.

We are talking about a package of changes to the legislation for the implementation of amendments to the Constitution of Russia, adopted in the summer of 2020 as a result of the all-Russian vote. According to one of the amendments, the same person cannot hold the post of the country's president for more than two terms. However, at the request of deputy Valentyna Tereshkova, this rule does not apply to those who were in this position before the changes came into force.

Thus, Putin, who has been in the post of president since 2012, can participate in the next elections, which should be held in 2024 and 2030.

The document also notes that, in accordance with the law, a citizen of this country over the age of 35, who has lived there for at least 25 years, does not have and has not previously held the citizenship of a foreign state or a residence permit can become the president of Russia. At the same time, the requirement of the absence of foreign citizenship does not apply if the state or its part became part of Russia.
