Thanks to the initiative of President Volodymyr Zelensky, every Odesa citizen can get gas at a price that is much lower than what we see in the news about the situation on the European gas market. This was reported by the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Sergey Hrynevetskyi, at a meeting on sustainable energy supply to budget institutions and institutions of the Odesa region.
The meeting was attended by heads of structural subdivisions of the regional state administration, deputies of the regional council, representatives of JSC "Odessagaz", DTEK "Odesskie Elektrosety" and suppliers of relevant services.
The main goal of the meeting is to determine the effective mechanism of interaction and the algorithm of actions of all services and structures to ensure a stable passage of the autumn-winter period in the conditions of the crisis on the gas market in Europe.
"We see another record on the European gas market - the price of gas has already exceeded 800 dollars per thousand cubic meters. This never happened. This is happening only because the leadership of Russia has already started a gas war against Europe. This is the first gas war between Russia and the European Union. They are trying to break modern European energy regulations," said Deputy Head of Odesa OGA Sergey Podgainy.
As noted by leading experts on the formation of tariff policy for energy carriers, with the help of Gazprom's monopoly capabilities, the Russian leadership is creating a situation where it will blackmail the Europeans - either they will agree to put Nord Stream 2 into operation without legal requirements and abandon market rules for gas, or they will remain with a gas deficit in the winter and an even higher price. The Europeans themselves provided Russia with the opportunity to start such a war. Gazprom has a monopoly on the European gas market, and this is how it is used against Europe.
"If there was no guaranteed transit through the territory of Ukraine now, the situation in Europe would be even worse, and the price of gas would be even higher. Europeans must admit that they have become a victim of Russian gas aggression. Europe must defend itself. There are opportunities for this. First, it is necessary to prepare for the fact that the Russian leadership may increase the pressure even more in the winter. Secondly, the European Union as a whole and Germany in particular should listen to the arguments of Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and other countries that insist that Russia should be deprived of the possibility of using gas as a weapon. If the Europeans don't realize it now, they will have to realize it in the winter under much worse conditions of an outright energy crisis," Podgainy said.
At the meeting, they discussed the problematic issues of gas supply and electricity supply of the budget institutions and the institutions of the region in the current year in the conditions of the functioning of the markets of these services.
Commenting on the situation that has developed around the tariff topic, the head of Odesa Regional State Administration Sergey Hrynevetskyi noted that if it were not for the annual tariff proposals for the population and special conditions for teplokommunenergo enterprises initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky, then the price of gas in Ukraine would already have reached the level of UAH 20. per cubic meter or 20 thousand UAH. per thousand cubic meters. The state saves Ukrainians from this.
Let us remind you that the path to the introduction of gas and electricity markets began back in 2008, when Tymoshenko's government agreed to a condition from the IMF to equalize gas prices for the population and industry. This requirement was maintained until after 2014 the government agreed to increase tariffs even faster than the IMF demanded.
In 2015, the Law of Ukraine "On the Natural Gas Market" was adopted, and since then the transition to market conditions in this area has become irreversible.
"No one will be able to give up the market now - even those who declare it. But what the government will do now is to guarantee that all Ukrainians will be supplied with gas at the price set for this hour, regardless of what pogroms Gazprom will still be wreaking on the European market," Podgainy added.
In turn, Hrynevetsky noted that precisely thanks to the president's initiative to establish the proposed annual tariffs, every Odessa citizen can receive gas at a price that is significantly lower than what we see in the news about the situation on the European gas market.
