The National Police detained the two most influential "thieves in law" in Ukraine

They controlled crime in four regions and parts of the western region

Law enforcement officers detained two of the most influential "thieves in law" in Ukraine, nicknamed Umka and Lasha Svan. This was reported in the communications department of the National Police of Ukraine.

As it turned out, the detained persons formed criminal groups and controlled criminality in the state through their representatives, incited the commission of new crimes and the appearance of additional threats to the safety of citizens.

Operatives of the Department of Strategic Investigations and investigators of the Main Investigation Department, together with the Office of the General Prosecutor, have been documenting evidence of the spread of the criminal influence of "thieves in law" for more than a year. It is known that Umka, who was crowned in 2014, and Lasha Svan, a "thief in law" since 1995, received their high "titles" from top representatives of the Russian criminal world. They were considered one of the most influential "thieves in law" in Ukraine and controlled criminality in several regions at once - Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Nikolaev, Zaporozhye and parts of the western region.

Documenting the illegal activity of "thieves in law" took place in two main stages. Thus, at the first stage in April of this year, during a large-scale police special operation in the Dnipropetrovsk region, operatives exposed a criminal group under the leadership of a so-called "policeman" and reported suspicion to 16 of its participants at once, including five "watchers" and four criminal "authorities" ".

During the second stage of the special operation, on May 19, the police detained two "thieves in law": Umka - at the Dnipro airport when trying to leave the country, and Lasha Svan - at the hotel.

At this time, investigators are preparing a report of suspicion under Article 255-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Deliberate establishment or spread of criminal influence in society). Searches are ongoing.
