The sea in Odessa turned green due to dangerous toxic bacteria (photo)

The same problem was observed in the sea off the coast of Odessa in June 2019.

Sea water off the coast of Odessa once again "bloomed" with potentially toxic bacteria due to heavy rainfall. Ecologist Halyna Terenko reported this on her Facebook page.

We remind you that the same problem was observed in the sea off the coast of Odessa in June 2019.

"The olive-colored tide is the result of heavy rains and, as a consequence, terrigenous runoff and high water temperature (+19,0). This time — the brackish water cyanobacterium Aphanizomenon flos-aquae. Microalgae is potentially toxic, a carrier of neurotoxins," the ecologist wrote.

The specialist added that a similar seawater bloom was observed in June 2019, when the same type of toxic algae developed in mass with another cyanobacterium, Nodularia spumigena.

"Since the "green" tide of 2019, two years have passed, and our requests for the purchase of equipment for the detection of toxins in seawater samples have not been heard and supported by any head of any department, but in vain. We are ready to work for the good of our city!", the ecologist emphasized.

Let us remind you that ecologists recommended refraining from swimming on the Odessa coast due to the fact that surface water entered the water area of the city's beaches during rainstorms.
