Today, at the meeting, the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada elected the first deputy speaker of the parliament. He became Alexander Kornienko. 256 People's Deputies voted for the relevant decision.
Sofia Fedyna from "European Solidarity" was also nominated for the post. Ranking voting showed the advantage of Kornienko over Fedina: 248 "for" against 73 "for".
After the vote, Kornienko was removed from membership in the local self-government committee, and he took his place as first vice-speaker in the presidium of the Verkhovna Rada.
During his speech, Kornienko said that he wants to make sure that "reforms do not sink in the parliament", because the parliament needs modernization, otherwise trust in the Verkhovna Rada, which currently stands at 3%, will further decrease.
"If you and I changed the map of Ukraine, canceled the shameful moratoriums, opened the markets, we should have enough political will and expertise to reform the regulations of the Verkhovna Rada. A comprehensive reform of parliamentary procedures and processes is needed, otherwise the parliament will continue to push water into the mortar, slowing down the process of the country's transformation," said the new vice-speaker of the parliament.
Note that Alexander Kornienko is the chairman of the political party "Servant of the People". First deputy chairman of the deputy faction of the political party "Servants of the People". Let us remind you that earlier the first vice-speaker was deputy from the "servants of the people" Ruslan Stefanchuk. On October 8, he was appointed Speaker of the Parliament instead of Dmitry Razumkov.
