The redeployment of units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation from areas along the borders of Ukraine continues, but the number of deployed Russian troops does not lead to the conclusion that the threat of armed aggression has passed. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Andrey Taran, who added that the department subordinate to him is doing everything possible to ensure that the defense forces are able to give an adequate response to threats.
"According to our intelligence and information from our Western partners, Russia is withdrawing its troops very slowly. For example, about 3,5 thousand military personnel were assigned yesterday, and about 4 thousand military personnel today. The equipment of the Russian Federation still remains near our northern border," Taran added.
Separately, he drew attention to the fact that today the situation in the neighboring Republic of Belarus is being carefully monitored. Among the possible scenarios, Ukraine does not exclude the possibility of an invasion of Russian troops from the direction of Belarus, or the spread of military aggression through the territory of Belarus.
"At this time, we do not note such an immediate threat. At the same time, if necessary, we have developed plans, and we know how to act if we see signs of the creation of a group of armed forces that can be used through Belarus," Taran added.
