On May 18, the UNICEF Foundation delivered to Ukraine a new batch of the Comirnaty vaccine from the Pfizer-BioNTech company as part of the COVAX global initiative. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
In particular, Ukraine received 122 thousand 850 doses of the drug. It is planned that by the end of the week, UNICEF will deliver only 473 thousand 850 doses of the vaccine, as well as solvent for injections.
It is expected that 378 thousand doses of the drug are intended for vaccination of workers in the field of education. The remaining vaccines will be directed to the priority groups of the first and second stages of vaccination.
We remind you that Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines require special conditions of transportation and storage - at temperatures ranging from -60 °C to -80 °C. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide storage and logistics of this and previous batches of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines from COVAX in Ukraine with proper cold chain.
Earlier, as part of COVAX, Ukraine received 117 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and 367 200 doses of the AstraZeneca-SKBio vaccine, produced by SK Bioscience, South Korea.
COVAX is a global initiative to accelerate the development and production of vaccines against COVID-19 and ensure their uniform distribution around the world. The work of COVAX is coordinated by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), WHO and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), and UNICEF interacts with manufacturers and partners for procurement and logistics of vaccines against COVID-19.
